How ten years of work finally paid off
It is November 4th, 2025. It is a day that I have been waiting to happen for years now.
It’s here! This marks the first day in my career as a published author. That alone is a big deal. Not many writers ever make the step into being an author. What is still blowing my mind is the knowledge that I went from being a writer to being an author with my first submission.
That NEVER happens. Most authors collect rejections like 90s and 2000s kids collected those wacky wrist bands (we all had them). I somehow managed to produce a story worthy enough to make it in on my first shot. Which, I will admit, has caused an equal amount of ego boosting and imposter syndrome. Now I have a standard to hold my future work against. If I can make it into my first submission, then I should be able to repeat that process again, right?
I have no idea, to be honest. We will see how it goes with later submissions. I know, beyond any doubt, that a rejection notice will come eventually. There is a part of me that wants to try and see how long I can keep my streak going, though. If for no other reason than trying to compete with my own capabilities.
Always onward and upwards, you know?
So, what’s next?
Well, back to work, really. I’ve got words to write.
I’m trying to expand my skillset. That comes with facing my peers. So, I’m joining some writing communities. Local ones and online, because diversity in critique is always a good idea (if you can trust those voices).
I’ve narrowed my originally massive list of short stories down to three. Why? Because I only have so much brain power, and some of those stories were becoming redundant. I also have two novel projects that I’m hammering away at. One is a standalone horror story, the other has the potential to be a series.
Also something, something mecha & zoids inspired. Stay tuned…
Yeah, yeah. I hear you. This was an incredibly short post. Especially for not having posted an updates for a couple of weeks now. I get it. I’ve been slacking. Moving forward, I am going to strive to improve my posting rates. It is the professional thing to do.
